Biography

Loneck conducts research on therapeutic process in alcohol and drug treatment, as well as mental health treatment, with a primary focus on engaging and retaining clients in needed services. He has examined the effectiveness of the Johnson Intervention in outpatient alcohol and other drug treatment and was a National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors' (NASMHPD) Research Fellow from 1991 to 1993. Loneck also examines the therapeutic process of dual diagnosed clients in psychiatric emergency rooms through the New York State Office of Mental Health. Current plans include the development and testing of non-linear dynamic modeling (NLDM) methods for therapeutic process data. Before coming to UAlbany, he served as a clinician for eight years in a chemical dependency rehabilitation center in Ohio.

Research Interest

Barry Loneck's work currently focuses on the development of statistical methods for analysis of psychotherapeutic process data. Additionally, he has done substantial work in the area of treatment and prevention of substance use disorders, especially engaging and retaining individuals with substance use disorders in treatment as well as substance abuse prevention counseling for adolescents.
