Biography
Darrell P. Wheeler is an active scholar with interests including the identification and exploration of individual and communal resiliency in HIV prevention and intervention among African American and Black gay, bisexual, and transgender communities. He also is active in the professional community and is the current President of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Social Workers. Dr. Wheeler is working on a number of novel studies pertaining to Black MSM and HIV Intervention and/or Prevention including: Black Men Exploring (B-ME) a CDC funded Randomized Clinical Trial evaluating the efficacy of a locally developed behavioral intervention (Principal Investigator); and HPTN-073, a NIH funded feasibility study examining the Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis among Black MSM in the U.S. Cities (Protocol Chair). He is member of the Office of AIDS Research Advisory Council and the President of the National Association of Social Workers. Dr. Wheeler, who currently serves as UAlbany's Interim Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, is also an expert on social justice and social work practice in the areas of health and mental health disparities.
