Biography

Seema K Tiwari-Woodruff is a neurobiologist who has served on the UCLA School of Medicine faculty since she joined the Department of Neurology in 2006. She has recently joined the Division of Biomedical Sciences in the School of Medicine at UC-Riverside as an Associate Professor. Dr. Tiwari-Woodruff earned her M.S. in Chemistry and Biochemistry and Ph.D. in Physiology at the Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the UCLA School of Medicine. Her laboratory research is focused on understanding the molecular events involved in neurodegeneration and neuroprotection in demyelinating central nervous system. In addition, her lab is testing various compounds as therapeutic agents in mouse models of multiple sclerosis. Other projects include the role of gender specific hormones and sex chromosomes on oligodendrocyte function during developmental myelination and during remyelination. Her lab uses a combination of transgenic mice and two different mouse models of demyelination.

Research Interest

Techniques employed in her lab include various behavioral tests, electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry, quantitative morphometry, protein and gene analysis.
