Research Interest
The focus of research in our lab is to study digestion, absorption, and utilization of dietary components such as energy, amino acids, and minerals in feed ingredients, with emphasis on poultry. Although the primary species utilized in our research is poultry, many of the feed ingredients/foods being evaluated are targeted for other species such as pigs, fish, dogs, ruminants, zoo animals, and humans, with poultry being used as the model animal. Other areas of research in our laboratory include effects of nutrition on reproduction (egg production) of laying hens, effects of different dietary components/feed ingredients on ovarian cancer in laying hens ( being used as a model for humans), and feeding stable isotope amino acids to laying hens to produce intrinsically labeled eggs which are then fed to humans to study protein metabolism in humans.
