Biography

Dr. May has been a faculty member of the University of Maryland since 1989 and is the Program Director for the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship. He was instrumental in developing clinical geriatric services at the Baltimore VA Medical Center and the curriculum for the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship. He is an attending physician on the Geriatric Evaluation and Management Unit, the Geriatric Medicine Consultation Service, the Geriatrics Continuity Clinic and the Geriatrics/Dementia Clinic. Dr. May also serves as an attending physician on one of the general medical ward teams at the VA, an instructor for a physical diagnosis course and a lecturer on topics in Geriatric Medicine. In these many capacities, Dr. May supervises and teaches Geriatric Medicine fellows, Internal Medicine residents and medical students. He has been a co-investigator in clinical research studies related to Geriatrics funded by the National Institute on Aging and the VA Cooperative Studies. His interests are in the evaluation and care of patients with dementia, and the rehabilitation of elderly patients. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (1984), and received his Certification of Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine in 1990. He was re-certified in both Internal Medicine and Geriatrics in 2000 and again in Geriatrics in 2010.
