Biography

Dr. Gonzales received his Doctor of Pharmacy from Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. Subsequently he completed a pharmacy practice residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska and his critical care residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital/Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan. Following his residency training, Dr. Gonzales completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Critical Care at The University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, where he was the recipient of the 1999 American College of Clinical Pharmacy-Bayer Critical Care Fellowship Award. He also received the 2004 Cleveland Clinic Foundation Department of Pharmacy Research and Education Award, as well as the 2005 Ohio College of Clinical Pharmacy-Pfizer Research Award. In 2010, he was the recipient of the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy Faculty Preceptor of the Year Award. In 2010, he was inducted into the American College of Critical Care Medicine as a Fellow (FCCM). In 2013, was the recipient of the Critical Care PRN Education Award by American College of Clinical Pharmacy Critical Care PRN. In 2012, 2014, 2016, he received the Presidential Citation by Society of Critical Care Medicine for his committee involvement. He is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist and board certified critical care specialist.

Research Interest

Dr. Gonzales’s practice and research interests include sepsis, sedation, delirium, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and interprofessional education.  He also serves as program director for the Postgraduate 24-month Pharmacotherapy Residency Program at the University of Maryland.
