Biography
Mark Shayman graduated Summa Cum Laude from Yale University with a B.A. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry in 1975. He received his S.M. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University in 1977 and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard in 1981. From 1981-1986 he was a faculty member in the Department of Systems Science and Mathematics, Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. Since 1986, he has been a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland where he currently holds the rank of Professor. Dr. Shayman served as Graduate Director of the M.S. in Systems Engineering Program (1994-1996), and as Associate Director for Education (1996-1999) in the Institute for Systems Research (ISR). He was Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Graduate Programs in the A. James Clark School of Engineering (July 2006 - 2012), and is currently Associate Dean of the Graduate School for Student Success.
