Biography

I am interested in the biological timing mechanisms of both circadian and monthly rhythms. I have used a monthly orientation rhythm in the planarian Dugesia dorotocephala to explore the mechanism of the monthly clock using chemicals. Since this monthly rhythm is influenced by altered magnetic fields, I have also been interested in the magnetic effects on orientation in planarians. In addition, I have used the phototactic rhythm in Chlamydomonas reinhardii as a model circadian system. I have examined the effects of various chemical inhibitors on the timing of the circadian clock and used selected mutants with know metabolic deficiencies to determine the importance of these processes in the timing mechanism.
