Biography
Dr. Pulat received B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, in the area of industrial engineering. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) sponsored his Ph.D. degree in the same discipline, completed in 1980 at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC. Mustafa spent six years in the academia, first as assistant professor, and then as associate professor level in the University of North Carolina System. He then accepted “planning engineer” position at the AT&T Oklahoma City Works. At this electronic systems manufacturing facility, Mustafa worked on material handling engineering/automation, business process reengineering, industrial engineering, lean/six sigma applications, and contemporary work planning and management projects. Four years after joining this facility, he was promoted to senior engineer position, and two years after that, Mustafa became the engineering manager of his unit. At this middle-manager rank, he led various engineering teams including process engineering, material handling engineering, logistics, industrial engineering, and quality engineering. Mustafa accepted an early retirement offer made to the middle managers of Lucent Technologies in July 2001.
