Biography
Hern-Der Chern received his M.D. degree from National Taiwan University in 1983 and completed his residence training in gastroenterology, 1990 and Ph.D. degree in pharmacology from University of Pittsburgh, 1994. He had previously worked in Center for Drug Evaluation since 1998-2012 as Chief Executive Director, to support Taiwan government in regulating new drug clinical trial, marketing approval and related international affairs for regulatory convergence. Since 2013, he is the Chief Medical Officer for Taiwan Supra Integration and Incubation Center to promote new drug development in Taiwan. His wife, Hsiu-Wen Chen, is a faculty of Church Music in the Taiwan Presbyterian Theological College. They have 2 children, Joyce and Jason, computer engineer in San Francisco and USC graduate. He is also a standing board member of the Taiwan Christian Medical Association (TCMA).
Research Interest
He is the ICMDA regional secretary for East Asia covering Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Mongolia and Taiwan since 2011. His role in ICMDA has facilitated a process of networking and helped him learn from different members in the family of ICMDA.
