Research Interest
My research has focused on the design, conduct, and analysis of multicenter clinical trials and cohort studies. Most of my work has involved the evaluation of treatments and risk factors in patients with coronary disease and diabetes and the epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases and women’s health. I am the Principal Investigator of the Coordinating Center of the Study of Women's Health Across the Nation (SWAN), a multi-racial/ethnic longitudinal cohort study designed to characterize the physiological and psychosocial changes that occur during the menopausal transition. In addition, I am the Principal Investigator of the Data Coordinating Center for the Myocardial Ischemia and Transfusion (MINT) trial, a multicenter randomized clinical trial evaluating transfusion strategies for patients with acute myocardial infarction and anemia. Over the years, I have collaborated on projected involving pulmonology, infectious diseases, genetics, and behavioral interventions. I serve as the Vice-Chair for Education for the Department of Epidemiology and teach advanced epidemiological methods.
