James Finck

Biography

"Dr. James Finck has been a member of the USAO faculty since 2011. He is an assistant professor of history. Dr. Finck teaches the American History courses at USAO, but his specialty is the Civil War and Political History. Before joining USAO, Finck taught at the University of Texas-Pan American for five years. He has also taught at Northwestern Arkansas Community College and as a grad student for three yeas at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Finck has authored several publications and has received the Kentucky Historical Society Research Fellowship, the Gordon G. McNeil Paper Award. In 2014 Dr. Finck won the USAO Regents Award for Scholarly Activity. Dr. Finck offers several interesting classes at USAO, including a two semester class on American Presidents and Political Parties, The Civil War, Cultural Resources Managment, and the Middle East. He also teaches the History Capstone writing class and and a Readings in American History Seminar. Dr. Finck is the chair of the Summer History Symposium and the USAO Summer History Camp which are held together. The Symposium brings important historians to the campus of USAO for the benefit of the students and the community. The History Camp is meant to excite high school students to learn more about history. For the Camp high school students can apply for a scholarship to spend two days on campus hearing lectures from USAO faculty as well as the Symposium speaker. The students will sleep in the dorms and the next morning have a special breakfast with the the featured speaker. "
