Biography
"Dr. Jan Hanson, Professor of Music, joined the USAO faculty in 1987. She serves as the conductor of the USAO Concert Choir and teaches courses in music history/literature, conducting and music methods. Dr. Hanson has extensive conducting experience in choral, opera, oratorio and music theatre. She serves as an adjudicator with the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association, the American Choral Director’s Association and the Quartz Mountain Arts Institute. Dr. Hanson has appeared as a guest conductor for the Oklahoma Choral Director’s Association, the Tri-State Music Festival, Circle the State With Song Festival and the Mid-Del Choral Music Festival. Prior to her appointment at USAO, she was a teaching fellow at the University of North Texas, an instructor of voice at Southern Plains College, an associate instructor of music at Indiana University and a teaching fellow at the Aspen Choral Institute. Dr. Hanson maintains professional memberships with the Music Educator's National Conference, Oklahoma Music Educator's Association, Oklahoma Choral Director's Association, American Choral Director's Association and Sigma Alpha Iota, a professional music fraternity for women. She was named to Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Pi Kappa Lambda and Outstanding Young Women of America. Dr. Hanson is a member of the advisory board of the Oklahoma Arts Institute."
