Biography
"Melanie D. Joe has was born and raised in Southern California. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Southern California in 1993 and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the USC School of Pharmacy in 1997. Melanie completed a PGY-1 General Practice Residency in Pharmacy at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, California in 1998. Melanie served as staff pharmacist at both community and systems-based hospitals before being promoted to leadership roles. She developed pediatric and neonatal pharmacy services at Queen of Angels Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center and initiated an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Residency and student program there. Melanie transitioned to USC University Hospital (USCUH) (a.k.a. Keck Hospital of USC) in 2005, where she was appointed Pharmacy Manager and was promoted to the bi-campus Director of Pharmacy, responsible for USCUH and USC Norris Cancer Hospital, in 2008. She was actively involved with the California Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (CSHP), Southern California Chapter and served on several CSHP Seminar Management Teams and as Chapter President. She was awarded CSHP Fellowship in 2009 and completed the ASHP Pharmacy Leadership Academy in 2012. In 2014, Melanie transitioned to UC Irvine Health as the Chief Pharmacy Officer. She is responsible for development of the strategic vision for the pharmacy enterprise and has oversight of general pharmacy operations, ensures regulatory compliance, develops policies and procedures, is actively involved in quality improvement processes, and has oversight of pharmacy financials and business development. Melanie received a Master of Public Administration with emphasis in Health Management degree in 2016 and has published posters in quality improvement and medication safety."
