Biography
Dr. Garman combined his interest in tennis and computers to develop an algorithm to manage the U.S. Tennis Association's National Championship for Boys 16 and 18. That solution evolved into the Garman System for match scheduling, used throughout the country. He also referees tennis matches in NCAA competitions.He consults on the use of Macintosh computers. His published articles include "Inverse Functions, Rubik's Cube, and Algebra," The Mathematics Teacher (1984), and "Applying a Linear Function to Schedule Tennis Matches," The Mathematics Teacher (1983).
Research Interest
Dr. Garman began his career as a theoretical mathematician, but his interests have evolved into using known principles of mathematics to solve everyday problems.
