Biography

At conferences, Kanjilal has presented on existentialist Hindi literature, cosmopolitanism in Bollywood, Orientalism and Modern Hinduism. She works with materials in English, Hindi, Bengali, Urdu and Sanskrit. An article derived from her doctoral dissertation critiques the marketing of the mythic postcolonial exotic. She is currently researching female heroism, paternalistic nationalism and sexual violence in India.

Research Interest

Sucheta Kanjilal's book project examines the impact of the Sanskrit epics and their adaptations on contemporary Indian politics. Her teaching interests include academic writing, colonial discourse, gender studies and literatures of the British Empire.
