Biography

Professor Slack teaches in the undergraduate program as a clinical instructor in many courses. Her professional experiences encompass the full life cycle, from pregnancy to hospice care. Prior to teaching, Professor Slack worked in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She is a Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist and holds an MS in Parent Child Health Nursing. Professor Slack has served special needs children and their families as a consultant, manager, and educator in a variety of settings, including the PICU, chronic care ventilator dependent unit, home care, and outpatient clinics. After joining the VNA, she expanded her practice to adults and senior citizens, seeking patients at home and community wellness sites, and coordinating community influenza clinics. Her current nursing practice includes emergency room nursing at St. Margaret’s Hospital, where she maintains her pediatric and adult advance life support and trauma nurse certifications.
