Biography

Dr. Winkler joined the faculty in 2014 and teaches in the undergraduate and graduate programs. She is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Her clinical background includes medical-surgical and telemetry nursing. In addition to her faculty position, Professor Winkler practices as a family nurse practitioner in a regional federally qualified health center. Her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) evidence-based practice project, The Effects of Education on Cardiovascular Disease Knowledge, was developed as a result of her experiences with the local underserved at-risk populations. She presented the findings of her DNP evidence-based practice project at the American Association of Nurse Practitioners national conference in June of 2014.She was the recipient of the Valparaiso University Graduate Research Academic Symposium Award and the DNP Student Award in 2014. Dr. Winkler is currently vice-president of the Zeta Epsilon chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, and also serves as a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Coalition for Advanced Practice Nurses of Indiana, and Society of Nurses in Advanced Practice.
