Biography
Mr. Michael J. Wasserman, Ph.D. serves as a Managing Director at H.I.G. BioVentures, LLC (Also known as H.I.G. BioHealth Partners). Mr. Wasserman focuses on investments in life sciences, biopharmaceuticals and medical devices sector. He is involved in all stages of the investment process. Prior to joining H.I.G., he was a Principal at Innovations Foundation. At Innovations Foundation, Mr. Wasserman was instrumental in building multiple high growth companies based on technology derived from academic or federally sponsored research programs. He has also held prominent operating roles in several entrepreneurial and venture-backed life sciences companies. Mr. Wasserman focused on the creation, financing and development of high technology companies in the life sciences, information technology and engineering sectors. He was a Founder and Vice President of Business Development at CELLutions Biosystems, where he broadly managed business operations and was directly responsible for the successful negotiation of partnership, co-development and licensing agreements with industry leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology organizations. Mr. Wasserman also has extensive clinical research experience. As Director of Research at Advanced Therapeutics, he was involved in a series of seminal clinical studies involving biological approaches to treat rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune and inflammatory disorders. He worked directly for, or as a Consultant to, corporate finance institutions, pharmaceutical companies and clinical research organizations. He has been Director at Orbus Therapeutics, Inc. since August 2015 and VertiFlex Inc. since March 27, 2017. He serves as a Director of NeuWave Medical, Inc., The Florida Venture Forum, Inc., HyperBranch Medical Technology, Inc., and BioFlorida. He serves as a Board Member or Observer for H.I.G. portfolio companies Tranzyme Pharma, CardioFocus and Metastatix. He served as a Director of Clarus Therapeutics, Inc. Mr. Wasserman received a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Toronto and a B.Sc. from McGill University.
