Biography
Dr. Peter Justin Klein, M.D., J.D. has been a Partner of New Enterprise Associates since February 8, 2012. He also serves as Managing Director at the firm. Dr. Klein joined New Enterprise Associates in its healthcare team in 2006 and focuses on medical device, healthcare technology, specialty pharma and biopharmaceutical company investments. Dr. Klein served as a Principal at New Enterprise Associates since January 16, 2008. He served as a Senior Associate at New Enterprise Associates. Prior to this, he worked for the Duke University Health System, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Operating Officer at Duke University Hospital on health system strategy, finance and clinical service unit operations. In addition, he worked at Latham & Watkins LLP, where he assisted life sciences companies on numerous licensing transactions, regulatory and corporate securities matters. He serves as Board Observer of Carticept Medical, Moximed, Psyadon Pharmaceuticals, Sensors for Medicine and Science, Viacor, ExploraMed, FIRE1, ChromaCode, Inc., TriVascular, ExploraMed and Vibrynt. Dr. Klein serves as a Director of Ajax Vascular; Relievant Medsystems, Inc.; FIRE1, Senseonic; Legato Medical; VytronUS, Inc. and VertiFlex Inc. He has been Director of Senseonics Holdings, Inc. since December 2015. He has been a Director at PhaseBio Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since January 2010. He has been a Director of Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics, Inc. since April 18, 2014. Dr. Klein has been Director of Personal Genome Diagnostics, Inc. since October 2015. He serves on the board of Advanced Cardiac Therapeutics, Inc. He is also a Member of the Advisory Boards of the National Venture Capital Association's Medical Industry Group and its Medical Innovation and Competitiveness Coalition (MedIC). He served as Director of Ulthera, Inc. since 2011 and Topera, Inc. since April 25, 2013. Dr. Klein served as a Director of CV Ingenuity Corp. since October 4, 2011; and Nevro and TriVascular. He served as Member of the Board of Trustees at Duke University. He served on the medical center's Institutional Review Board. He earned an M.D. from the Duke University School of Medicine, a J.D. from Harvard Law School and an A.B. in Economics and a B.S. in Biological Anthropology and Anatomy from Duke University.
