Dr. Douglas A. Freeman

Biography

 Dr. Douglas A. Freeman is professor and dean of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. He has contributed substantially to the establishment of several key partnerships at the university, including the One Health Initiative, the Global Institute for Food Security, the Sylvia Fedoruk Canadian Centre for Nuclear Innovation and an emerging Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence. Dr. Freeman served from 2001-2010 as a professor and head of two departments at North Dakota State University. During that time, he also served for two years as director of the Great Plains Institute of Food Safety. He completed a DVM, conducted a clinical residency and earned a MS degree in theriogenology at the University of Minnesota. He earned a PhD in reproductive physiology from the University of Idaho and is a Diplomate in the American College of Theriogenologists (ACT). Freeman has worked in both clinical science and basic science departments at academic institutions in the U.S. and internationally. His experience also includes private veterinary practice and veterinary professional services in the animal health industry. Freeman is past-president of the ACT and was a Fellow of the American Council on Education. He is a member and past chair of the University of Saskatchewan’s Council of Health Science Deans and serves as a member of the board of directors for two major university-based organizations: the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization-International Vaccine Centre (VIDO-InterVac) and Prairie Diagnostic Services.
