Dr. Jane Christopher-hennings

Biography

 Dr. Jane Christopher-Hennings is the head of the South Dakota State University (SDSU), Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences Department and the director of the South Dakota Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Laboratory. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Christopher-Hennings worked in private practice for six years before obtaining post-doctoral training at SDSU, where she became a full professor. Her primary research focus in the early 1990’s was in molecular virology. She also studied the pathogenesis of viral diseases of swine, specializing in the pathogenesis and detection of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus in boars and boar semen. She is currently a member of the Swine Health and Information Center, Preparedness and Response Working Group; United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Animal Health Laboratory Network Methods Technical Working Group; South Dakota Poultry Association, Executive Advisory Board; American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV) Swine Health Committee; and the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostician’s (AAVLD) Executive Committee. Dr. Christopher-Hennings is a member of the AASV; the AAVLD; American Veterinary Medical Association, Conference for Research Workers in Animal Diseases and the South Dakota Veterinary Medical Association.
