Biography
Professor Alvin Alejandrino is an evolutionary ecologist, interested in explaining biological diversity through the examination of phenotypic trait evolution. Of particular interest is the pattern of convergent evolution, where different species exhibit comparable phenotypic responses to similar selection factors. Professor Alejandrino’s organisms of interests are marine mollusks, which include sea slugs and scallops. Species within each of these groups show repeated evolution of traits such as behavior and shell shape, which underestimates biological diversity.
