Biography
My teaching emphasizes the central role of evolutionary theory in every aspect of biological science. Teaching microbiology is the vehicle I use to demonstrate the critical importance of evolution on all living systems. Biology is not an accumulation of unrelated facts; it is a tapestry woven together by individual facts each supporting the theory of evolution. All of this makes apparent the danger and falsehood of superstition, supernatural explanations, and magic as a way of understanding natural phenomena.
Research Interest
My research interest is focused on the molecular and genetic mechanisms of the inflammatory response in the amphibian Rana pipiens and the effect of environmental pollutants on the innate immune response.
