Biography
Richard Stenberg attended the University of North Dakota-Williston, now WSC and continued on and received his undergraduate degrees in History & Social Science from Minot State University. He received his MA Degree in American History from the University of North Dakota where he specialized in North Dakota History with his thesis on Governor George F. Shafer. Since 1995 he has taught at WSC where he offers the standard survey courses in US History & Western Civilization; introduced the History of North Dakota to the school's curriculum and has featured a specialty course on the History of Lewis & Clark Expedition since 1999, in addition to other special topic courses like Historic Baseball, and along with Professor James Stout, a Veterans Oral History Program in conjunction with the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Stenberg has reviewed numerous books on Lewis & Clark, the fur trade and the American West for various academic journals and has written over half a dozen articles covering North Dakota History, the Upper Missouri Fur trade & Lewis & Clark. He has also completed seventeen seasons with the National Park Service serving as an interpretive Park Ranger at Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site. He and his wife Mary have three daughters.
