Biography

As one of my students once said, the only people who do not use accounting are people who are no longer alive. Yet, few people understand accounting well enough to use it to make informed decisions. Teaching gives me the opportunity to help students develop the skills they will need in their career and learn the language of business. I am especially passionate about helping students understand the importance of estimates and assumptions behind any decision and find great reward in seeing students go beyond the mechanics of accounting to question the motivations for certain decisions and conflicts of interest that might arise. WPI students are unique in their ability to work independently and to rise to any challenge they are given. They are well suited to study accounting as they are bright, logical, and curious, and possess strong technical skills. Working in the field and conducting research have taught me that accounting is an exciting field where psychology and economics interact and I strive to share this passion with my students.
