Alan Kubler

Biography

B.A. Psychology, Reading University, England, 1977 M.A. Clinical Psychology, John F. Kennedy University, 1982 Ph.D. Clinical Psychology, Center for Psychological Studies, Albany, 1996 Dr. Kubler is a psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapist who has been in private practice for over 20 years. He completed internships in community mental health working with schizophrenics in outpatient treatment. He then worked for six years with the Berkeley Unified School District in their placement site for seriously emotionally disturbed adolescents, where he saw children and was a consultant to the teaching staff. He has been an assistant professor at the California Institute of Integral Studies for over 15 years where he teaches human development and supervises students and interns. For the past three years, he has taught psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Wright Institute

Research Interest

His interest in the interface between psychoanalysis, literature and art and the development of relationships between different traditions led him to his involvement in fort da, the journal of the Northern California Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology, where he has been the editor for the past six years. Dr Kubler's clinical interest in the way we talk to patients has developed into furthering ways for clinicians to write about their work in an alive and meaningful way that captures the depth of human experience.
