Biography

Dr. Uddin received his B.S. in Pharmacy at Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois. He is a registered pharmacist and is certified by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Dr. Uddin has extensive experience in clinical laboratory administration, applied clinical research and industrial toxicology. He established a therapeutic drug monitoring unit and introduced the Ektachem 2+2 thin film analyzer. He directed programs that established safe operating criteria for handling thermally degraded lubricants and assessed the toxicity of fuel additives selected for anti-icing characteristics. As the Director of Scientific Activities, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs), Dr. Uddin managed programs on HIV research, clinical investigation, and regulatory policy. Noteworthy, he directed efforts to establish the Office of the Armed Forces Medical Examiner within the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology to serve as a world-wide system for the Department of Defense.

Research Interest

He is active in professional affairs and has been Treasurer of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, an 11,000 member professional association, served as a member of the National Sickle Cell Disease Advisory Committee, NIH, Orphan Drug Board, FDA, and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Advisory Council.
