Biography

Dr. Haymond is Professor of Medicine and Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. The focus of his research program is to delineate and ultimately manipulate the hormone and substrate factors that regulate the absorption, assimilation, mobilization, and disposal of carbohydrates in infants and children. The delicate balance of nutrient availability to meet the energy and growth needs of children is frequently disturbed as a result of chronic disease, infection, trauma and/or organ failure.  In addition, the increasing incidence of both type I and type II diabetes has provided unique opportunities to study the effects of insulin, insulin resistance, and obesity on macronutrient assimilation in children. Morey has served as the Chair of the Pediatric Endocrinology Section at Baylor and was also VP of Research for the Houston Chapter of JDRF. He has received numerous honors and has over 200 peer-reviewed publications. He received his MD from Washington University in St. Louis.

Research Interest

Dr. Haymond is also a co-Principal Investigator on a Phase I-II Fast Track SBIR grant Xeris received in 2013 to accelerate the development of the G-Pen Mini for glucagon mini-dosing in the treatment of mild to moderate hypoglycemia.  Xeris recently sponsored a Phase 2 clinical trial at Baylor College of Medicine under the direction of Dr. Haymond.
