Biography

Mr. John A. McCarthy, Jr., has been the Chief Executive Officer of ZS Genetics, Inc., since December 2014. Mr. McCarthy served as the Chief Executive Officer of CryoXtract Instruments, LLC since December 2012. He served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of Qteros, Inc. from January 2010 to 2011. His 18-year experience includes managing the transformational growth of numerous leading life science and bio-based chemical companies into high-value commercial entities. He has been an Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Celunol since 2006. He served as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy at Microbia, Inc. since August 2009 and served as its Chief Business Officer. He served as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Verenium Corporation from June 20, 2007 to November 17, 2008. Mr. McCarthy served as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Xanthus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (alternate name Xanthus Life Sciences Inc.) from September 2005 to 2006. He served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Chief Financial Officer of Synta Pharmaceuticals Corp. from May 2004 to October 2006. From October 2000 to February 2004, he worked for Exact Sciences Corporation, a publicly traded applied genomics company, in various capacities. Mr. McCarthy served as an Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Treasurer of Exact Sciences Corporation since September 2001 and also served as its Principal Accounting Officer. He served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of EXACT Sciences Corporation from October 2000 to September 2001. Mr. McCarthy served as Senior Vice President of Cost Containment Services and Corporate Development at Concentra Managed Care Services, Inc. (alternate name, CRA Managed Care Inc.) since August 1996 and served as its Vice President of Cost Containment Services and Corporate Development since August 1994. He served as Partner at Kaufman & Company, an investment banking firm from March 1989 to June 1992. From August 1987 to February 1989, he served as an Associate at Morgan Stanley & Co. Inc., an investment banking firm. From October 1999 to October 2000, he worked with InfoMedtrics Inc., a developer of integrated data warehouse and decision support systems for large self-insured employers and managed care organizations and served as its President and Chief Operating Officer and following its merger in July 2000 as a Consultant. From January 1998 to August 1999, he served as General Partner of Crescent Gate, LP, a private equity fund that he co-founded. From August 1994 to January 1998, he was employed at Concentra Managed Care Inc., a nationwide provider of managed care services to the workers' compensation, auto and disability marketplaces, as President of the Managed Care Services Division. From June 1992 to July 1994, Mr. McCarthy served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of MedChem Products Inc., a specialty medical device and biomaterial company. He serves as a Director of BioLegend CNS, Inc. He served as the Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of InVivo Therapeutics Holdings Corp. since September 9, 2013 until February 2015 and served as its Director since April 16, 2013 until May 26, 2016. He served as Director of InfoMedtrics Inc. Mr. McCarthy holds a BS degree in Finance from Lehigh University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
