Eugene N. Melnyk

Biography

As Executive Chairman of the Board of Biovail Corporation, Eugene Melnyk is responsible for corporate governance, management oversight, and, in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors, sets the vision and strategy for Biovail’s long-term growth and success. From December 2001 to October 2004, Mr. Melnyk was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Biovail. Mr. Melnyk became Executive Chairman of the Board in November 2004. He has been the Chairman and a Director since March 1994 when Biovail’s predecessors, Trimel Corporation and Biovail Corporation International (“BCI”) amalgamated. From October 1991 to March 1994, Mr. Melnyk served as Chairman of the Board of BCI and was instrumental in acquiring, financing and organizing the businesses of that company. He also founded Trimel Corporation, a leading Canadian medical publisher, and served as its President and Chief Executive Officer from 1983 through July 1991. Mr. Melnyk is also a member of the boards of the Ottawa Senators Foundation, the New York Racing Association, the National Hockey League Board of Governors, the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association and the Grayson Jockey Club Research Foundation. He is an Honorary Director of Help Us Help the Children, Canada Benefactor of the Tourette Syndrome Association, and is an Honorary Director of the Belmont Child Care Association.
