Biography

Dr. Jeffery A. Steevens is a Research Toxicologist at the Columbia Environmental Research Center for the US Geological Survey in Columbia, MO. His research activities focus on assessing the bioavailability and toxicity of environmental contaminants in water and sediments. One of his current responsibilities is leading a multi-disciplinary team to determine the toxicity of contaminants of interest to the Department of Interior including algal toxins, metals, and major ions. Prior to working at the USGS, Dr. Steevens was a toxicologist with the US Army Corps of Engineers and led research using a life cycle approach to managing risks of nanotechnologies. Dr. Steevens represents the USGS as a member of the Nanoscale Science, Engineering, and Technology (NSET) Subcommittee and the Nanotechnology Environmental and Health Implications (NEHI) workgroup of the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI).
