Biography

Lenny has spent much of his life in Oregon after moving from upstate New York in 1977. After receiving Bachelor of Science degrees in Geology and Mathematics from Portland State University, he stayed to complete a Master of Science degree in Geology while Lisa, his wife, began a teaching career in the Portland area. Lenny began his USGS career while finishing his M.S. He was hired to work on the Volcanic Hazards Program at the Cascades Volcano Observatory at Vancouver, Washington, where he modeled debris flows from Castle Lake on Mt. St. Helens, Washington and from other moraine lakes in the Three Sisters and Mt. Hood areas in Oregon. Lenny was hired to assist in the groundwater investigation of the Portland Basin at the Portland Office of the USGS Oregon Water Science Center. During this investigation, he began to develop his computer programming skills which led to the publication of many useful applications for groundwater modeling such as Modflowarc and Modtools.
