Biography

Professor of Accounting Degrees: B.S., Methodist College; M.B.A., University of Phoenix; D.B.A., Nova Southeastern University Teaching Philosophy: Teaching is active (just like learning is active). Teaching means asking questions and expecting answers. Can you do this? Do you understand? Or saying, I challenge you, I understand you, and I am available to help you, seven days a week, most hours of the day. Learning is not limited to a specific classroom or a time slot – and teaching is not limited to a specific classroom or a time slot. Teaching means conveying a passion for each student’s success, and then seeing it through, both in and out of the classroom.

Research Interest

Investigating the effectiveness of governmental audit committees and understand the relationship between governance and financial decision making in municipal government. Results thus far suggest that municipalities with audit committees have higher incidents of reported internal control weaknesses but not internal control deficiencies. There is also partial support for an association between the presence of an audit committee and form of governance, but those results are not conclusive and suggest that the political climate beyond form of governance influences decisions with regard to having audit committees.
